There are many different recommendations when it comes to the best way to take CBD oil. Some say it should be taken on an empty stomach, or at least a quarter of an hour before or after eating. Another common piece of advice is to drop it directly on or under your tongue and hold it in your mouth for a while. But are these the best ways to take CBD, or can it be much more effective? Yes, it can!
Our bloodstream
To get the optimal effect from the CBD oil we take orally, the maximum amount must reach our bloodstream. Since your mucous membranes only absorb CBD oil to a limited extent, only a small portion of the dose actually reaches the bloodstream.
You will also have to hold the oil under your tongue much longer than recommended: at least 100 seconds. Additionally, the CBD that is swallowed has a long journey through the stomach to the liver, where the phenomenon known as the first-pass effect occurs.
So how can we optimize absorption? By taking it with certain types of food.
Food with CBD
We are not talking about dishes containing CBD, but rather about taking your CBD oil with or during meals. By doing this, you may significantly improve the absorption of CBD into the bloodstream.
It is important to fit your CBD oil intake schedule into your eating pattern, or vice versa. In addition to spreads, herbs, and possible sauces, CBD oil will now also be part of the meal.
Why it is so effective
Taking CBD oil with certain types of food can improve the bioavailability of the supplement. Bioavailability is the extent and speed at which a substance, in this case CBD, is absorbed and delivered into the bloodstream, where it can affect our body’s own cannabinoid system.
When you take a supplement orally, the active ingredients are absorbed by the digestive system. Specifically for CBD oil, the CBD and other compounds are first broken down in the stomach before being absorbed through the small intestine and sent directly to your liver via the portal vein. It is particularly important for absorption in the liver that CBD is taken with certain foods, which is very beneficial for the absorption rate.
The liver
In the liver, a ‘family’ of enzymes called cytochrome P450 (CYP450) acts on CBD, where the compounds are metabolized before being distributed through the bloodstream. During this process, the first-pass effect occurs, which breaks CBD down into more than 100 different metabolites, many of which are not used by the body and are quickly excreted. This reduces the concentration of CBD oil and, therefore, its bioavailability. In short, CBD has less chance of reaching the bloodstream.
The question of whether CBD oil is safe during pregnancy is one that we are often asked. And rightly so. When you are pregnant, you naturally want the very best for your unborn child. There are substances that are advised against because they can affect the development of the unborn fetus.
For example, we know that alcohol and tobacco should not be consumed during pregnancy because they can harm the development of your baby. But what about CBD oil and pregnancy? Read all about it!
CBD oil during pregnancy
CBD is a 100% natural compound from the hemp plant and has no psychoactive effects. CBD oil has properties that can provide pleasant effects during pregnancy. Cannabis has traditionally been used as a remedy for menstrual issues. It is also said that in ancient Persia, cannabis seed juice was used to prevent miscarriages and relieve pain and migraines.
Using CBD oil during pregnancy is a popular topic. Unfortunately, there has been insufficient research on the subject. However, it is known that CBD is recognized and absorbed as a naturally occurring substance in the body. Any substance that enters your body during pregnancy can have an impact on the development of your baby.
Although CBD oil is not associated with negative effects on the development of your baby, we recommend avoiding the use of CBD oil during pregnancy. This is simply because there has been too little research into its effects.
Using CBD during pregnancy
If you normally use CBD oil but have discovered that you are pregnant and would like to continue using it, always consult your GP or midwife first! Do the same if you want to start using CBD oil again after your pregnancy while breastfeeding. Always use legally available oil, preferably organic.
CBD oil dosing can be tricky. Especially if you’re a beginner or want to try CBD. The fact that there is no standard dosage makes it even harder. Every person is different and therefore reacts differently to CBD oil. The perfect dosage varies from person to person. We understand this can cause confusion.
It is, however, possible to find the right personal dosage and dose. Below are tips to make dosing easier for you. If you follow these tips, the correct dosage will be within reach.
Consider the build-up period
If you’re just starting with CBD oil, it’s important to know that CBD has a build-up period. It can take up to fourteen days for the CBD to be fully integrated into your body. So, if you don’t notice anything after a week, it’s possible that the CBD hasn’t built up enough yet.
During the build-up period, it’s advisable to start with a low dosage. We recommend taking 1-2 drops in the morning and 1-2 drops in the evening. Pay attention to how this affects you.
If you don’t notice a difference after two weeks, you may consider increasing your dosage.
Gradually increase (or decrease)
Once you’ve gone through the build-up period, you can look for the dosage that works best for you. You can do this by gradually increasing or decreasing the dosage until you reach the desired result. If you still don’t feel any effect after the build-up period, try adding an extra dose in the afternoon.
Take 1-2 drops 3 times a day—morning, afternoon, and evening. If you don’t notice a difference after a few days, gradually increase your dosage. For example, take 3-4 drops three times a day. In order to evaluate what this increase or decrease does to you, you should take this new dosage for a few days before adjusting it again.
By experimenting in this way and slowly building the dosage, you’ll eventually find that moment when you reach the right dosage.
If you’ve increased too much and noticed that a lower dosage worked better, it’s time to scale back to that dosage.
Listen to your body
To find the right dosage of CBD, it’s incredibly important to listen closely to your body. Pay close attention to the signals your body gives you regarding the dosage of CBD oil it’s receiving.
It’s not always easy to listen to your body. Often, we ignore the signals or attribute certain symptoms to other factors.
To gain more insight into this, it might be helpful to request the Happy logbook to track how you feel. Think about whether it’s related to the CBD oil, or if there might be another cause. By keeping a brief daily record in the Happy logbook, you’ll notice patterns over time and gain more insight into your situation.
This is especially important to avoid taking too much CBD. While taking too much CBD is not dangerous, it can be costly, as CBD is an expensive ingredient. Additionally, over-dosing could reduce the effectiveness of the product.
Can tolerance occur with CBD oil?
The use of CBD oil is rapidly gaining popularity both at home and abroad. It is versatile and many users are enthusiastic about the effects they notice. CBD, or cannabidiol, is non-psychoactive and can be used daily. The question is: can tolerance develop with the use of CBD oil? Read on and discover how it works!
What is tolerance to CBD oil?
Our body is an intelligent machine and continuously adapts to external influences. This flexibility allows our body to cope with changing conditions. However, this adaptability also means that the intake of certain substances may lose its effect over time.
Your body essentially becomes accustomed to the substance being administered. This effect is known as tolerance. When a substance loses its effectiveness, the effect at the same dose diminishes. This could mean that symptoms return or that you need to take more of the substance to achieve the desired effect.
Does CBD oil lead to tolerance?
It is possible for your body to build a tolerance to CBD. However, in practice, the likelihood of developing tolerance to CBD oil is not high, and it often takes a long time. Whether someone develops tolerance and at what pace it occurs varies from person to person.
While one person may not experience any tolerance after years of daily CBD use, another person may notice that the effectiveness of the dosage gradually decreases after a few months. If tolerance occurs, you can increase the dose. Aside from the higher costs, the question remains whether this should be done in the long term.
How can you prevent tolerance to CBD oil?
If you notice that tolerance is developing and you don’t want to increase the dose, you can take a temporary break. A one-week break is enough for your body to reset. When you resume taking CBD oil after a week, you’ll experience the same effects as when you first took CBD oil.
To prevent tolerance to CBD, you may consider taking a preventative break of one week every 6 weeks. Want to learn more? Read more about the dosage of CBD oil or contact us. We are happy to provide personalized advice so you can fully benefit from the effects of CBD oil.

CBD Oil Use
When using CBD oil, there are various options available. There’s no single “ultimate” guide to using CBD oil. It really depends on which CBD oil you are using and how. Typically, CBD oil comes with information in the form of a leaflet or instructions on the packaging.
As mentioned, there are different ways to use CBD oil. It also depends on what feels best for you. For instance, there is CBD oil in drop form for daily use, but capsules are also quite popular.
Additionally, there is a difference between CBD oil for internal and external use. Since we’ve promised you a comprehensive guide to using CBD oil, we’ll briefly discuss the most common methods for taking and applying CBD oil.
A CBD Oil Guide is Different for Everyone
A guide to using CBD oil is merely a guideline. We believe that the best way to get the most out of CBD oil is not just to follow the instructions but also to listen closely to your body. This might sound strange, but because everyone is different, the instructions for CBD oil use are quite personal.
Of course, there is a standard description of how to use CBD best, but the most effective method for you depends on your intended purpose. Since CBD oil has relaxing and anti-inflammatory effects, it is often used to alleviate anxiety and depression. It also provides relief for many people suffering from (chronic) pain. Want to know more? In this article, you’ll read all about the benefits of CBD oil.
If you’re trying to alleviate pain, you may need a higher dosage than if you’re simply helping your body’s natural system from time to time. Additionally, everyone responds differently to CBD oil use. That’s why there’s no universal CBD oil guide that works for everyone. However, there are guidelines that apply to most people. For instance, it’s recommended to gradually build up your CBD oil usage.

CBD oil is available in different concentrations. The most suitable concentration for you, your child, or your pet depends on various factors. Our range of CBD oil includes oils with varying percentages. The percentage of CBD indicates the amount of CBD in relation to the entire oil. For children under 10 years old and small pets, we recommend a concentration of 2.5% to 3%.
Adults may benefit from a concentration of 5% or higher. For the true “die-hards,” there are CBD paste and CBD crystals, with concentrations reaching up to 98%. We recommend gradually building up the use and are happy to advise you further on this!
